Country Music

Country music is a popular musical form developed in the southern United States, with roots in traditional folk music, spirituals, and the blues.

Red Hill Country Music Festival is one of the top events in Australian country music calendar. It takes place every January in Red Hill, just South East of Melbourne.

The genre of the festival has made a small shift from previous years and for 2008 we will have a Country, and Country Rock. The artists are keen to present their material and it is hoped that there will be a large crowd on the day.

Festival Chairman Mr Jeff Sproal promised those attending a wonderful day, with fabulous entertainers, line dancing demos, in a great family atmosphere. Mr Sproal added that the Lions Club of Mount Eliza is a step closer to making the Red Hill Festival a keynote annual entertainment day for all residents and visitors to the Peninsula.

Artists on the bill for 2008 are Nicki Gillis, The Davidson Brothers, Wanita, Lee Forster, Trevor Dennis, Johnny Cash Tribute Show - Walk The Line, The Blackhill Ramblers, The Prairie Oysters and The Distance. A fabulous day's entertainment at the beautiful Red Hill Showgrounds Reserve.

Our compere for the day is the inimitable Mr Rod Quarrel.

More about the artists

The Country Music Festival also features a youth talent segment which proves that we have so much talent just waiting to be discovered right here on the Peninsula. Brought to you by the Rye & District Community Bank, this showcase of young artists paves the way for a fabulous day out for all the family.

Also featured on the day will be the Red Hill Hot Rod/Custom and Classic Car Show. This is an ASRF sanctioned event for pre 1974 cars. There will also be a "Tuff Ute" display for pre 1980 utes. For 2008 the Red Hill Country Music Festival will be presenting "The Ian Shaw Memorial Trophy" for the winner in the Hotrod and Classic Car section.

Gates open at 8am with admission being $20 and children under 14 admitted free. The program will run from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm. Ample parking is available along with many food and clothing stalls to make this a great family day of entertainment.
